Description
We are not wholly bad or good
Who live our lives under Milk Wood
And Thou, I know, wilt be the first
To see our best side, not our worst.
A lyrical imagining of a Welsh seaside village, Dylan Thomas’ masterpiece is both ethereal and earthy, revelling in its flamboyant poetry and multifarious cast of lovingly evoked characters – all brilliantly preserved in Cerys Matthews’ delightful adaptation.
Commissioned by the BBC, and described by Dylan Thomas as ‘a play for voices’, Under Milk Wood takes the form of an emotive and hilarious account of a spring day in the fictional Welsh seaside village of Llareggub.
We learn of the inhabitants’ dreams and desires, their loves and regrets. We meet characters such as Captain Cat who dreams of his drowned former seafellows and Nogood Boyo who dreams of nothing at all.
Adapted by Cerys Matthews, in a beautiful, illustrated edition.
