Description
Book of the Month – March 2020
Signed First Edition
From baker, beekeeper and birdwatcher to falconer, farrier and forager, join poet Angus and printmaker Lilly as they explore the British Isles, uncovering and celebrating our crafts and traditions.
This collection of poetry and printmaking aims to capture and celebrate the heritage and craftsmanship of the British Isles. The book comprises of thirty poems with accompanying black and white linocut prints.
In this book, Angus and Lilly draw attention to traditional, artisan crafts of particular importance as many are in danger of becoming ‘extinct’ and there is a fear that, without recognition, aspects of our cultural heritage will disappear. This is a timely celebration of rural lifestyle.
Ruth’s Review:
“A real treat of a book. Pleasingly tactile, playful and full of heart.”
Our Isles is a beautiful book which delights in connection to the land, to sustainability, authenticity and the joy of the landscape around us. It links us back to our predecessors, to crafts, skills and trades honed over time.
Birditt’s poems celebrate the simplicity and skill of a job well done, the conscious and considered habit of craft, and of tools revered and worn with use. Using skill, line and mark, Hedley’s lively prints complement & illuminate, revealing the characters we meet along the way and the joy they take in their expertise. A real treat of a book. Pleasingly tactile, playful and full of heart.
