Having enjoyed The Other Hand so much, I was genuinely excited to pick up a proof copy of Gold when it arrived in the shop earlier this year and beat off others just as keen to read it first. With such high expectation, I’m pleased to say I was not disappointed. Gold is a thrillingly written and emotionally rewarding novel set in the world of British professional cycling. The competitiveness of sport at this level, the commitment and scarifice, is perfectly captured by the shifting fortunes of the key characters Zoe and Kate, friends and rivals with a tangled past and now a tangled present as they compete to represent their country in pursuit of Olympic Gold. But the book is much more than this. Read it!
